why prodromal labor isn’t always awful…

this strong and amazing mama had days (and DAYS!) of early labor.

and it sucked.

but what can be awesome about prodromal labor, more often than not, is that when labor hits, it’s fast and furious and then – it’s done!

i was working with another doula on this birth – she and i, as well as the doc, were all at madison ican’s screening of more business of being born when labor finally decided to pick up steam. and boy did it ramp up quickly! we all headed out of the movie, and their babe was born before the movie was even done.

if ever there was a reason for three folks to leave a lovely gathering of birthie folk – it would be for a birth! and such a beautiful birth at that!

these lovely folk were on the blog for their belly pics – keep an eye out for some baby pics too in a couple of weeks….

What a beautiful birth indeed! It was moving so fast, I actually changed into scrubs right in the birth room. That was a first for me :)

sweet friends…

mama here was one of my all time favorite happy bambino employees – then she got all growed up and left us for a “real job”. but i can’t really complain cause she does such beautiful work. and this means i still get to work with her, cause her graphics skills are awesomely awesome.

i had such a good afternoon with these guys – so many fall days have been glorious this fall, and this was one of them.

i hear today and tomorrow might be two more glory days, so i hope we all get a chance to get outside!

Love these! You are so talented!!!!

why you should say yes to having your session done in your home

this session was SUCH A BLAST.

we took photos in their home and out in their neighborhood that captured them all so perfectly.

the stress of finding the “perfect” location overwhelms parents, and the stress of getting “just the right shot” overwhelms the kiddos. but being at home and in the spaces kids are best themselves in is a recipe for really lovely – and true – captures.

i can’t wait to see these images up on their walls. it will be a true treat methinks. have a fantastic weekend all!

a lovely trek…

These guys live out in Lake Mills, and what a lovely trek it was! They were married in this spot, it was their anniversary, and their baby “Bean” was just about ready to meet the outside world as we wandered at dusk.

(The day I met these guys for the first time, we got to telling stories, and they told the story of a little moose. My girl and I have a little moose story too, so of course we had an instant connection. And out came Ambrose – who was a very vital piece of “Team Bean”, so of course he had to be included in the shoot!)

Two weeks later Bean was born, and more pics to follow!!!

a day in the garden…

I was at the birth of the big round baby in these pics, and boy what a difference six months makes – look at those cheeks (and dimples and thighs and pudgy elbows)!

Thanks for a lovely summer morning to remember on this veryvery gray day.
