What to Expect

If there was one word to sum up what I love most to capture it’d be honest.

I enjoy connecting with people – in every aspect of my life.  I want to have a sense of who you are, and what you love.  I don’t mind seeing what real life looks like – so no worries about being “picture perfect”.

I want kiddos to feel comfortable with me and I don’t get a buzz when photographing until the fake smiles of a four year old melt away and their grin reaches into their eyes and turns the twinkle up.

I have never loved paintings or drawings as much as I love photographs.  And as I printed out a photograph of my child tossing her head back laughing in a field of strawberries I realized that photography is my art.  I have decorated my home with the art that moves me – and my heart is happy when I am able to work with other families who want to do the same.

I enjoy photographing people in the spaces they love.  Their homes, the playground their children swing at every week, area natural spaces.  I’ve done shoots at the UW Terrace, Picnic Point, State Street, Olbrich Gardens, apple orchards, pumpkin patches – and they’ve all been lovely!

I spend 1-2 hours per (standard) session – so there is no need to feel rushed.  There is plenty of time for snacks, nursing, even naps for a little one.  Feeling under pressure is never a good recipe for beautiful and honest photography.

I am a people person and will spend time talking with babies and children – and of course their parents as well, so expect to interact and perhaps answer silly questions about yourself.

Don’t be worried if you have a slow-to-warm up kiddo, generally we find a rhythm that works, and patience with little ones is a skill children’s photographers have to master!

For more information on sessions, you can read the “Session Information” page.

After you book a standard session you will receive more information on what to expect, what to bring, and guidance on the sort of clothing that photographs best.

Your session can be held across a number of locations (up to three) if you’d like – your home, your yard, and a local park, for example.  However, keep in mind while planning that sessions are 1-2 hours and traveling from place to place and transitioning kiddos into new spaces does take time.

After your session, a “sneak peek” blogpost will be put on the blog within a few days of your session.  A full gallery of 20-30 images will be placed online for a few days and you will have an opportunity to place your order.

Your wall art, prints, and albums will be delivered to your home.
